Rookie catcher Chad Tracy was named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America in its midseason report released on Friday. Tracy currently leads Pepperdine in six major offensive categories including average (.402), home runs (9) and RBI (27).
Additionally, Tracy paces the club with 47 hits, 11 doubles, a .744 slugging percentage, 15 multiple-hit games and eight multiple-RBI games.
Tracy has homored in each of his last two game and has posted a pair of two-homer games, going deep twice at Tulane on March 5 and again at Portland on March 27 when he drove in a career-high four RBI.
The rookie backstop was named the West Coast Conference's (WCC) Player of the Month for March after batting a team-high .449 (31-for-69) in 16 games for the Waves, helping them to the top of the WCC's West Division.
He paced the conference with seven home runs, while hitting five doubles, a triple, and driving in 20 runs. Tracy also scored 16 runs during the month and posted an .855 slugging percentage.
The freshman had 10 multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI games, while hitting safely in 14-of-16 contests. He had five games with three or more hits, recording four hits on two occasions and totaled a career-high four RBI at Portland on March 27.
During a seven-game hitting streak, Tracy batted .393 (11-for-28) with six runs scored, three home runs and nine RBI. In a 12-11 win over then-No. 8 Tulane, Tracy went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three RBI, and three runs scored. Tracy had a pair of two-home run games during the month.
