TOLEDO, Ohio - The Wayne State baseball team (16-10) suffered a 10-7 loss in the second game of a twinbill at the University of Toledo (12-10) on Tuesday.
Toledo put two runs on the board, including a solo homer to left by Scott Boley, in the bottom of the first inning and added another score in the second on a solo shot to center by Nate McKeon.
Down 4-0 in the fourth, Ranck tripled to right center with one out in the fourth, and Weisman brought him in with a sacrifice fly to deep left field to make it a 4-1 game.
UT responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame on home runs by Ryan Laude and Drew Hoisington, the latter a three-run blast giving the home team an 8-1 advantage.
Wayne State came storming back, however, with a six-run, two-out rally in the top of the fifth inning to pull within one. After Brett Witczak (Hudsonville, Mich.) singled and Scott Martin (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) doubled, both Warriors scored on a two-run double off the centerfield wall by Tony Hines (Detroit, Mich./Mumford).
The rally continued as Bob Schmidt (Oxford, Mich.) was hit by a pitch and Ranck laced an RBI single to left, plating Hines. Weisman followed and cleared the bases with a three-run homer to deep center.
Toledo tacked on a pair of scores in the bottom of the fifth, which proved to be enough to seal the victory.
Wayne State will host the University of Findlay for GLIAC doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday, with each set starting at 1:00 p.m.
