The University of Maine baseball, which team took two of three games from N.Y.I.T. last weekend, travels to Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State this weekend. The Black Bears enter the weekend with a record of 11-9 on the season. Maryland Eastern Shore is 6-19-1 on the season, while Delaware State is 9-17-1.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEAR: The Black Bears are 11-9 on the season and have won seven of their last 10 games. Maine is led by Kevin McAvoy (Brewer, Maine) who is batting .431 with 13 runs scored and is tied for the team-lead with 22 RBI. He has six doubles and a team-leading three home runs. Curt Smith (Willemstad, Curacao) is batting .420 with 20 runs scored and 19 RBI. He leads Maine in doubles (10), triples (4) and is tied for second in home runs (2). Smith is second on the team with five stolen bases. Joel Barrett (Brewer, Maine) is hitting .353 with 14 runs scored and is tied for the team-lead with 22 RBI. He has three triples on the season. Matt McGraw (Burlington, Ontario) is batting .348 with 18 runs scored and 14 RBI. He has three doubles and two triples on the season. Danny Menendez is batting .314 with 11 runs scored and nine RBI. Joe Hough (West Roxbury, Mass.) is batting .295 with a team-high 21 runs scored and five RBI. He leads the Black Bears with seven stolen bases. Ryan Quintal (Manchester, N.H.) is batting .271 with 16 runs scored and 18 RBI. He has five doubles, two triples and one home run. Billy Cather (Worcester, Mass.) is hitting .256 with nine runs scored and six RBI. Scott Robinson (Ajax, Ontario) is 3-2 on the mound with a 6.84 ERA. He has three saves on the season. Robinson has recorded 22 strikeouts on the season which leads the team. Nolan Boike (Arlington, Mass.) is 3-0 on the season with a 3.80 ERA. Jason Weymouth (Charleston, Maine) is 2-0 on the season with a 1.93 ERA. Troy Martin (Dover, N.H.) is 2-4 with a 7.04 ERA. He has fanned 13 batters on the season. Josh Zyskowski has pitched well in three starts this season but has yet to record a decision. He has a 3.05 ERA and has fanned 19 batters on the season.

A NEW LOOK TO THE MAINE STAFF: Maine has a new coaching staff for the 2006 season. Steve Trimper (Eastern Connecticut State Univ. '92) was named head coach on August 18, 2006 after spending the past seven seasons at Manhattan College. He compiled a record of 172-174-2 with the Jaspers. Trimper has added Cory Domel (Western Illinois '01) and Jared Holowaty (Eastern Connecticut State Univ. '02) as assistant coaches. Domel will serve as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator. He joins the Black Bears after serving as head coach last season at the College of Lake County in Illinois. Holowaty last served as a graduate assistant at the College of New Jersey. Four-time America East All-Conference selection Aaron Izaryk (Maine '05) has also joined the staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

ROBINSON SAVING THE GAME FOR MAINE: Senior Scott Robinson continues to move up the all-time saves list at Maine. He currently has 18 saves which ranks second on the all-time list. He recorded two saves last weekend against N.Y.I.T. He is one save shy of tying Mike LeBlanc (1986-89) who is the all-time saves leader with 19.

hough about that: Joe Hough set a Maine record earlier this season when he belted his 12th career triple. He has one more than Chad White (1990-93) who finished his career with 11. Curt Smith is right behind Hough, having hit nine career triples.
