ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team won its first American Southwest Conference series of the year with a 5-2 win over Concordia, Saturday afternoon at Hunter Field, but dropped the nightcap 14-2.

HSU received another quality outing from Nathan Copeland, who went five innings, scattering six hits and striking out five to earn the win. Josh Alcorn earned the save with two innings of scoreless relief. It was his second save of the series and 17th of his career.

The Cowboys tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the on a Wayne Pimpton solo home run to left center. HSU took the lead for good with a run in the fourth on a Regan Dixon two-out RBI single that scored Pimpton who had doubled with two outs and nobody on.

HSU added three insurance runs in the fifth inning on a RBU single by Gage and a two-run single by Dixon. Both came with two outs. Chad Thielpape made it 5-2 with a solo home run in the sixth for Concordia.

Dixon was 3-for-3 in the game for the Cowboys.

In the nightcap it was all Concordia as they scored six runs in the third and fifth innings to take a 13-1 lead.

The Cowboys only two runs came on solo home runs by Copeland and Pimpton.

HSU is now 14-12 overall and 5-7 in league play. Concordia is 19-11 overall and 7-5 in conference action. HSU will play at UT-Tyler on Monday at 5 p.m.
