San Diego - San Diego State senior right-hander Erick Eigenhuis has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week after his performances in two contests last week.

Eigenhuis, from Veradale, Wash. (Central Valley HS), pitched a critical 4.2 inning stretch in the opening game vs. conference rival Utah last week, allowing two hits and no runs, while striking out two. Eigenhuis entered the game in the third inning after the Aztecs had already surrendered seven runs, but his effort helped SDSU earn a come-from-behind 9-7 victory to win game one of the series vs. the Utes. He also threw two innings of relief vs. No. 7 Long Beach State, putting the 49ers down in order in both innings.

Prior to this season, Eigenhuis, a sixth-year senior, had thrown just eight innings since his freshman year of 1998 due to arm and back injuries. The 4.2 innings vs. Utah was his longest stint since his freshman campaign when he compiled a record of 5-3 and was named SDSU's most improved player. He has now thrown 7.2 innings in three appearances this season, allowing just three hits, no walks and three strikeouts.

San Diego State continues Mountain West Conference play this weekend when it travels to Colorado Springs to take on Air Force in a three-game series beginning Friday (March 21) at 2:00 p.m. (MST).
