AKRON, Ohio - Sophomore catcher/designated hitter Kurt Davidson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover HS) was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. It is the second-straight week that Davidson has received the conference honor and fourth time in his career at Akron.

In the team's second week of action, the Zips improved to 4-1 with a three-game sweep of Morehead State University. Davidson guided the team to the three wins by going 5-for-12 with three home runs, eight RBI's, six runs scored, three walks and two hit-by-pitches.

Over the last four games, Davidson has hit five total home runs, at least one in every game. Last season, Davidson hit seven home runs in 54 games, but so far this season he has five home runs in only five games.

In the first two games of the series at Morehead State, Davidson recorded two hits in each game. In the third game he recorded only one hit, which was a three-run home run. However, he didn't see many hitable strikes as he was hit twice by pitches and walked three times.

Davidson now leads the team in bating average (.500), slugging percentage (1.273), on-base percentage (.593), hits (11), RBIs (12), home runs (5), total bases (28), and hit-by-pitches (2).

The Zips will look to continue their early season three-game winning streak, with a three-game series against Eastern Kentucky University, scheduled to start on Friday, March 3. Game one will begin at 2 p.m. (EST), while Saturday's and Sunday's games are scheduled to start a 1 p.m.
