Jan. 20, 2005
Fresno, Calif. - The 83rd season of Fresno State Baseball will begin on Saturday with the traditional Alumni Game, where some of the legends from Fresno State's past teams will face off against the 2005 squad. This is the first chance for fans to see the team in action, and the game will be held at Beiden Field.
Three-time All-American and current pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers Jeff Weaver will be headlining the alumni who will be at the game on Saturday. Weaver won 33 games for the Bulldogs from 1995-98 after joining the team as a walk-on, and will be pitching for the alumni on Saturday. Other baseball alumni who are scheduled to appear include many former and current professional players, including NCAA player of the year Bobby Jones, All-Americans Mark Gardner, Jason Wood, Ben Fritz, Josh Labandeira, former players Brandon Gemoll, Casey McGehee, Chris Patrick, David Griffin, Brandon Marcelli, and last year's WAC player of the year and first round draft pick, Richie Robnett.
The Bulldogs' 2005 squad will feature two returning Freshman All-Americans in Christian Vitters and Nick Moresi, second-team All-WAC pitcher Matt Garza, and High School All-American Beau Mills, along with the rest of the 2005 team.
First pitch for the Alumni Game will be at 2 p.m., and there will also be an alumni game including some of the older baseball alumni, featuring players from the earlier years of the Bulldogs' 82 years of baseball that will begin at 11 a.m.
Tickets are available at the Bulldog Ticket Office, or can be purchased over the phone at 278-DOGS. Parking will be in the Blue Lot only for this event, as the Red Lot will be closed for this weekend, so be sure to arrive early.
