Fort Collins, CO (U-WIRE) -- Despite there only a few Rams heading to the Don Barrett Open at the Air Force Academy Friday, the CSU track and field gave a preview of the success they hope to accomplish next weekend at the Mountain West Conference Championship.

Junior thrower Nate Heyrman, sophomore Trey Eder and junior Jill McCormick provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship during Friday's meet. Heyrman finished second in the meet with a career-best throw of 63-11 3/4. Eder came in third with a career-best toss of 62-8. McCormick took first with a career-best throw of 61-1 1/4.

Six women left with first-place finishes Saturday. Junior Becky Hammitt claimed a win in the 800 meters. Freshmen Linnea Pudwill placed first in the 3000 meters. Junior Jennifer Higgason came in first in the high jump. Junior Amanda Huddleston was the triple-jump champion.

Three men claimed first-place finishes on Friday. Freshman Collin Ferguson placed first in the high jump. Freshman Jason Smith claimed a win in the triple jump. Senior Adam Trainor took first in the weight throw.
