Texas Tech sophomore Sally Kipyego leads a standout class of distance runners on the 2006 Division I Women's All-America Cross Country Team, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced this week.
Kipyego won the NCAA Division I women's cross country title Monday in Terre Haute, Ind., racing to a 26-second victory over Colorado's Jennifer Barringer. Stanford, the NCAA women's team champion, placed two athletes on the All-America Team: Arianna Lambie and Teresa McWalters. Kipeygo is joined on the team by Texas Tech teammate Irene Kimaiyo.
The Division I All-America Cross Country Team consists of the top 25 finishers at the NCAA Championships plus an equal number of
