ROCK HILL, S.C. - The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Winthrop Fall Classic Saturday morning at the Winthrop Farm. The Bulldog men's squad finished in fourth place, while the women's squad took sixth place.
"I thought our men's team ran well on Saturday," stated Asheville head coach Dean Duncan. "We really improved from our last meet. We're making some progress and getting better."
The men's team had 114 points to finish in fourth place. VMI won the meet with 58 points, while Furman came in second at 75 points. Winthrop took third place, just ahead of Asheville, with 112 points. Radford finished fifth with 117 points.
The Bulldogs were led by David Bell and Jonathan Harmon. Bell finished in fifth place with a time of 19:09 over the 6K course, while Harmon took sixth at 19:10. Root Kirbach came in 17th place at 19:40. Taylor Little finished in 28th place at 20:02. Adam Matthews came in 59th place at 21:14.
The women's team came in sixth place with 156 points. Campbell won the meet with 32 points, followed by Furman (63), Winthrop (99), The Citadel (142) and College of Charleston (154).
"Our women's team didn't run as well as we would have liked on Saturday," commented Duncan. "We've got a week off and hopefully we'll get better before our Big South Conference meet in two weeks."
The women's team was led by Emily Mase. She came in fifth place over the 4K course with a time of 15:13. Elsa Allstaedt took 30th place with a time of 16:13, while Patricia Bradbury came in 35th at a time of 16:23. Hannah Bohlen finished 39th with a time of 16:28. Ingrid Allsteadt came in 47th at a time of 16:49.
