EVERHARDT AND CHEBET REPRESENT NICHOLLS ON ALL-SLC ACADEMIC TEAM

FRISCO, Texas - Junior Charlotte Everhardt and sophomore Marion Chebet represented Nicholls on the Southland Conference Track and Field and Cross Country All-Academic Team.

Everhardt is a junior Dietetics and currently boast a 3.87 GPA and has achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA five of her six semesters at Nicholls, while Chebet has been named to the Dean's and President's List twice. She is majoring in Accounting.

Southland Conference Announces Women's XC and Track All-Academic Teams

FRISCO, Texas - Cross country and track and field athletes from the Southland Conference were named to the Women's All-Academic team today.

Lamar's Clerc Koenck was named the Women's Outdoor Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year. A four-year letter winner for the Cardinals, Koenck put together one of the best resumes in Lamar athletics history. The Anacoco, La., native led her teammates in cross country to three team conference championships while earning two individual conference titles. She also has two outdoor 1,500-meter conference titles, two indoor mile conference titles, two indoor 3,000-meter conference titles and three indoor distance medley conference titles. In addition, Koenck is a two-time Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year and Outstanding Track Performer. She has made an appearance in the cross country national championships and was the first LU runner in eight years to advance to the NCAA Indoor Championships.

She is an Exercise Science major with a 3.77 grade point average.

Joining Koenck on the All-Academic team are Alison Holmes and Trecey Rew from Northwestern State; Amy Shackelford, Silent-Joy Egboda-Waye, Leah Matthews and Tabitha Riley from Stephen F. Austin; Kristi Hermes, Tiana Lee and Tiffany Singleton from Sam Houston State; Jessica Jones and Dana Mecke from UTSA; Nicholls State's Charlotte Everhardt and Marion Chebet; DeAnn Washington from McNeese; Leonie Ezegbunum from Southeastern Louisiana; Meghan Lemke of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; and Tenley Determan from Texas State.

Holmes, a senior Business Administration major with a 3.60 GPA, graduated magna cum laude, missing the SLC Outdoor hammer competition to participate in commencement.

Rew is the SLC Outdoor discus champion, while also finishing third in the shot put. Additionally, the Journalism major from Garland, Texas is the SLC Indoor shot put champion with a school-record 49-9.25 foot mark. She has a 3.91 GPA.

Shackelford had a great freshman campaign, earning All-SLC honors in the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. The Kinesiology major (with a 4.0 GPA) recorded a time of 17:44.09 in the 5000m and 38:30.90 in the 10,000m to finish third in both events.

Egboda-Waye earned All-SLC honors and set a school record and an NCAA qualifying mark in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing second in the event with a time of 13.79 seconds. She is a sophomore Accounting major from Lancaster, Texas with a 3.185 GPA.

Matthews has a 3.0 in Kinesiology. The senior finished fourth at SLC Outdoor Championships in the long jump with NCAA regional qualifying mark of 19-8.75 feet.

Riley was the SLC runner-up in the heptathlon, scoring 4,782 points. She is a sophomore from Carrolton, Texas with a 3.0 GPA.

SHSU's Hermes has a 3.64 in Kinesiology. The sophomore finished in fifth place at the SLC outdoor pole vault (11 feet, 7.75 inches).

Lee, a junior from Arlington, Texas, was All-SLC in three events, winning two gold medals, at SLC Championships. She was a member of the first-place 4x100 relay (45.61 seconds); the individual champion in 400-meter hurdles (1:01.20 seconds); and third place in 100-meter hurdles (13.79 seconds). The Health major (with a 3.37 GPA) is a NCAA Regional Qualifier in all three events.

Singleton is a 3.0 Health major from Killeen, Texas. The senior was All-SLC in 400-meter dash and 4x400 relay. In addition, she was the SLC 400-meter champion (53.86 seconds) and a member of 4x400 relay team that took first at SLC Outdoor Championships (3:48.28 seconds).

Jones, a UTSA sophomore, was the SLC Outdoor 100-meter hurdles champion with a career-best 13.76 seconds. She has a 3.06 in Pre-Business.

Mecke finished second at the SLC Outdoor Championships in the 800-meters (2:12.16) and the 1,500-meters (4:36.51). The sophomore hails from Bulverde, Texas and has a 4.0 in Engineering.

Everhardt is a junior Dietics major with a 3.84 GPA. She has been named to the President's List every semester since her arrival at Nicholls. In five of her six semesters, she has achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Chebet is a two-time Dean's and President's List honoree this academic year for Nicholls State. The sophomore has a 3.55 GPA in Accounting.

McNeese State's Washington placed fifth in the shot and discus at the SLC Championships. She is a Nursing major with a 3.22 GPA.

Ezegbunum has a 3.75 GPA in Accounting at Southeastern Louisiana. The senior from the Bahamas took All-SLC honors with a second-place finish (11.99m) in the triple jump.

Lemke, a junior from Tomahawk, Wisconsin, finished third in the 1,500 and fourth in the 5,000-meters at the SLC Outdoor Championships. The distance runner, maintaining a 3.51 GPA, finished fourth in the final of the mile run at the SLC Indoor meet and ninth at the 3,000-meter run.

Determan, a senior from College Station, Texas, is a Psychology major (Sports Psychology minor) with a 3.72 GPA. She was able to win the 10,000-meters at the 2008 SLC Championships with a time of 38:24.07 to set a stadium record at Huntsville.
