The Citadel announced last week that Belton-Honea Path runner Sarah Strickland and David Vass, a former runner at Eastside High School and current Spartanburg Methodist College runner, will join the Bulldogs in the fall. Both Strickland and Vass signed NLI's during the early signing period that runs from Nov. 10-17.
Strickland, a former teammate of current Citadel student-athlete Amanda Rawl finished ninth at 3A Upper State Championships and ran 20:49 at the Electric City XC Festival. Strickland finished 29th at the State Championships.
"Sarah will add depth to our distance runners as she will join a team that returns the top four runners from this year, all of whom are freshmen and sophomores," said Brian Johnson, distance coach.
David Vass, 3A State Champion in the 800-meters during his tenure at Eastside High School will transfer to the Citadel following graduation at Spartanburg Methodist.
"David won the 3A state championship in the 800 while at Eastside HS in 2003 and has been a key member of SMC's teams that have competed at the NJCAA national championships in 2003 and 2004," said Johnson. "David will help bolster our middle-distance area on the track and will add depth to our young cross country team in which five of our top seven runners are freshmen and sophomores."
