Barnabas Kirui races to silver medal in Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand (www.olemisssports.com) - Ole Miss All-American Barnabas Kirui concluded an outstanding 2006-07 season by winning a silver medal in the 3,000-meter steeplechase on Monday at the World University Games.

 

Kirui, who won the NCAA title in the steeplechase this season, finished in a time of 8:22.67. He finished second to Halli Akkas of Turkey, who won the gold with a time of 8:20.83. Kirui's time was just off his personal best time of 8:20.36.

 


 

 

The silver medal concludes a banner year for Kirui. He won the 10th national title in school history when he claimed the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June.
