WASHINGTON, DC - Georgetown University Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, Ron Helmer, has announced that Hoya track standout Monica Hargrove has been hired as a full-time assistant track coach for the 2005-06 season. Hargrove spent last year as a volunteer assistant coach with the Hoyas.
Hargrove, a three-time All-American, was a key component of the Georgetown women's track & field team from 2001 until graduation in 2004. She earned All-America accolades as a member of the Hoyas' distance medley relay team in 2002, 2003 and 2004. In addition, Hargrove was the 2003 BIG EAST Indoor 500m Champion and a member of the winning 2002 BIG EAST Outdoor 4 x 400m Relay squad.
Hargrove ran the second leg on the GU record-setting DMR team (11:07.27) in 2004 and was part of the Hoyas' third-place DMR squad at the 2003 NCAA Indoor Championships. She earned the James M. Gallagher Memorial Award for Outstanding Track & Field Competitor in 2003. An excellent student, Hargrove earned Dean's List honors in 2004.
Hargrove graduated from the Hilltop in May of 2004 with a degree in Psychology and is originally from New Haven, Connecticut. She replaces Juli Henner, who is pursuing other opportunities outside of Georgetown.
