El Paso, Texas - Freshman sensation Sandra Anane led the NMSU track and field team at the UTEP Twilight Invitational, as she jumped a personal best 41-5 in the triple jump, taking second and qualifying for the NCAA Regional meet. As a team, the Aggies collected 20 top-3 finishes in their final tune-up before the 2004 Sun Belt Conference Track & Field Championships.
Celeste Robillard got things started for the Aggies in the running events, placing second in the 200-meter dash with a season best time of 24.29. Katrina Powell also had a season best race in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.05. Genea Long finishes strong in the 100-meter hurdles with a season best 15.53, while the Aggies 4x100-meter relay team was on fire, winning in a time of 46.43.
Anane continued her stellar day with a fourth place finish in the long jump, as fellow freshman Crystal Richardson took second place in the javelin with a toss of 116-5. Richardson has now finished in the top-3 in her last four meets. Erin Streater led the Aggies once again in the throwing events with season best throws in the hammer throw (170-9) and the discus (144-7).
The Aggies next head to the 2004 Sun Belt Conference Track & Field meet on May 7-9 in Denton, Texas.
