GREELEY, Colo. - After a windy and very cold day of competition, Colorado State's Katie Lloyd and Kevin Johnson were the leaders after day one of both the Kim Schiemenz Heptathlon and Mike Bennett Decathlon held at Nottingham Field on the University of Northern Colorado campus.
CSU's Lloyd captured a pair of first-place finishes on the day in the 100-meter hurdles (14.40) and the high jump (5'5.75"). Lloyd placed second in the shot put (37'2.50") and fourth in the 200-meter dash (26.40).
Northern Colorado's Felicia Wacker is in third place overall on the strength of her second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.70). The Bears' Cindy McCarroll is in seventh place overall, but had a solid second-place tally in the high jump (5'4.25").
CSU's Johnson is in the decathlon lead with 3,576 points. Johnson notched a first-place effort in the long jump (22'10"). Johnson also placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.00) and the 400-meter dash (51.90).
Northern Colorado's Richard Mattison is in second-place overall after day one but is competing as an unattached athlete in the event.
