WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday that Steve LoBue was selected as its Diver of the Week. The sophomore won two of three diving titles at last weekend's Boilermaker Challenge, beating All-American competition from Auburn, Texas A&M, Florida and Virginia.
All three of LoBue's scores (1-meter, 3-meter and platform) were personal bests and above the NCAA Regional Diving Zone standard.
LoBue is the second Boilermaker diver in as many weeks to receive a conference honor. Carrie McCambridge was named Diver of the Week on Nov. 1, following wins over Arizona State's Trisha Tumlinson and Notre Dame's Meghan Perry-Eaton.
LoBue won the 1-meter title with 312.15 points, a mark that topped the scores of Aubun All-Americans Matt Bricker and Steven Segerlin. The Tigers were competing as exhibition divers at the two-day meet.
LoBue capped his Boilermaker Challenge scoring run with 498.90 points in platform competition. The Ewing, N.J., native's mark is the second best in team history, behind teammate Josh Karshen's 2004 tally of 511.60.
The Purdue divers captured four of the top five spots off the platform tower, including the top three. Overall, Boilermaker diving was responsible for 188 of the team's 836 total points.
LoBue began the weekend with a runner-up showing off the 3-meter springboard with a mark of 508.10. Freshman Eric Sehn of Texas A&M was the winner with 517.80 points.
LoBue and his teammates compete again Friday night at Northwestern for a 6 p.m. dual meet.
