Hesen Named to USA Swimming 2007-08 National Team
Sept. 28, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University senior Ben Hesen has been named to the USA Swimming 2007-08 National Team, the organization announced Wednesday.
Hesen was one of six swimmers named to the team in the 100 backstroke. Hesen was second in the 100 back at the 2007 NCAA Championships and placed third in the event at the 2007 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in August to earn his spot on the team.
Hesen is in elite company in the 100 backstroke, joining Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps and world record holder Aaron Piersol.
To be named to the USA Swimming National Team, a swimmer must have one of the top six times in Olympic events swum in finals from the previous year's World Championships, Pan-American Games, World University Games and U.S. Nationals. Relay leadoffs and time trials are not included, and only times from semi-finals or finals are counted.
The Hoosiers open the 2007-08 season on Oct. 12 when they travel to Missouri for a dual meet.
