BEIJING, China - Loyola College sophomore swimmer Phil Scholz advanced to the final of the 100-meter butterfly (S11 Category) and finished eighth in the 2008 Paralympic Games.
The event was the first of Scholz's five-event program at the Games. All competition is being held in Beijing's Water Cube, host of the 2008 Olympic Games earlier this summer.
Scholz swam a time of 1:11.76 in the final, just ahead of his mark of 1:11.93 in the preliminaries.
Spain's Enhamed Enhamed set a World and Paralympics Record, winning the event with a time of 1:01.12.
Scholz continues his Paralympics schedule on Wednesday, September 10, at 10:50 p.m. (Baltimore time) in the preliminaries of the 400-meter freestyle.
