Sept. 7, 2004

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.

Senior Lady Vol diver Lauryn McCalley (Moultrie, Ga.), was named one of GLAMOUR Magazine's Top Ten College Women, it was announced Wednesday by Cindi Leive, GLAMOUR Editor-in-Chief. The UT standout is being recognized for her dedication to diving, which earned her All-American status while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

"After reading the criteria for GLAMOUR Magazine's Top 10 college women award, and considering there are many worthy, outstanding candidates nation wide, unfortunately some of whom are not being honored, it still comes as no surprise to me that Lauryn has been recognized with their prestigious award.," UT Diving Coach Dave Parrington said.

"She fits the bill entirely. Throughout her stay thus far here at Tennessee she has been an absolute pleasure to work and be associated with in every aspect. I am truly proud of Lauryn, honored to have been a small part of her numerous achievements, and am excited for her senior year and to watch her continued success both in and out of the pool."

The five-time All-American is a key member of the Tennessee swimming and diving squad. Last season, McCalley captured the NCAA Zone B Three-Meter Championship and earned two All-America certificates at the 2004 NCAA Championship. Additionally, she has claimed 10 individual event titles over her career. Moreover, McCalley has earned three Academic All-America citations, earning one from CoSida and two from the College Swim Coaches' Association of America.

In its 47th year, GLAMOUR's Top 10 College Women Awards spotlights 10 college women from across the United States with an annual competition that recognizes leadership on campus, involvement in the community, excellence in their field of study, as well as their unique, inspiring goals. Each winner receives a cash prize, a trip to New York, opportunities to meet with top professionals in a variety of fields, national recognition in the magazine and a gift basket from L'Oréal Paris, who is exclusively sponsoring the program with GLAMOUR for the fifth year in-a-row. Over the years, the awards have gone to such movers and shakers as the first woman accepted on The Harvard Crimson editorial staff, the first Hispanic woman to win a Rhodes scholarship, and the first female brigade commander at the U.S. Naval Academy.

The 10 winners will be profiled in an editorial feature in the GLAMOUR October 2004 issue, which hits newsstands nationally on September 14th, and honored during a special luncheon awards ceremony on Friday, September 10th at the Condé Nast building in New York. L'Oréal will present its fourth annual "Beauty of Giving" award to one of the 10 winners. The award, a $2,500 donation to the charity of the winner's choice, will be given to the one candidate whom L'Oréal feels exemplifies the strongest charitable spirit. Speaking at the ceremony will be GLAMOUR editor-in-chief Cindi Leive; GLAMOUR vice president and publisher William Wackermann; Michael Trese, L'Oréal Paris Vice President of Public Relations; and CEO/President of the Association of American Publishers and former Congresswoman, Patricia Scott Schroeder.

GLAMOUR is the largest magazine published by Condé Nast Publications and has a total circulation of over 2.3 million copies, outselling 98 percent of all consumer magazines on the newsstand. GLAMOUR, the most award-winning women's magazine, reaches one in every ten women in the U.S. or 12.3 million monthly readers nationally. For website access, log onto www.glamour.com.
