Ohio State Diver Kellen Harkness Named ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-America

Harkness adds honor to third team Academic All-America selection in 2006

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State diver Kellen Harkness was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large First Team, the College Sports information Directors of America, which select the teams, announced Tuesday. Harkness adds the first team honor to his Third Team Academic All-America selection in 2006.

Harkness, a senior operations management major from Wuyllap, Wash., received the Big Ten Medal of Honor this season after earning two All-America selections in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. He was the runner-up in the 3-meter at the 2007 NCAA Championships after winning the event at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships and totaled three All-American honors in his career. He also was the 2007 Big Ten Champion in the 3-meter event and earned conference diver of the year honors after totaling nine first-place finishes in the season.

Along with his Academic All-America honors, Harkness is a CSCAA Academic All-American, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete. He is the sixth Buckeye from the swimming and diving team to earn Academic All-America honors and is the fourth to receive the award twice.

To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
