June 6, 2003

Poughkeepsie, NY - Mutual of Omaha is bringing Olympic gold medalist Misty Hyman to Marist College on Saturday, June 7, to speak to and conduct a swim clinic for more than 100 kids who are members of the Marist Swim Club and the Northern Dutchess Aquatic Club.

Hyman is perhaps best known for her stellar upset at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney when she defeated Australian favorite Susie O'Neill, who hadn't lost a 200-meter butterfly race in six years. Hyman won the gold medal in American-record time and is a hopeful for the 2004 Olympic team.

She is currently training to make the 2004 Olympic team after an injury and surgery on her shoulder.

At 11:00 a.m. at the McCann Center, Hyman will speak to kids about how she is overcoming the physical and emotional aspects of her injury to keep pursuing her Olympic dreams. Afterward, she will demonstrate various techniques in the pool.
