Penn Men's Squash Picks Up First Win of Season; Tops Brown, 8-1

Dec. 7, 2003

Philadelphia - Freshman Gilly Lane continued to dominate as he improved to 3-0 on the season after besting Brown's Corona, 3-0, at No. 1 as the University of Pennsylvania men's squash team topped Brown University, 8-1, in an Ivy League match on Sunday afternoon. With the victory, the Quakers improve to 1-2 on the season and 1-1 in Ivy League play.

The Quakers dominated the match, as the Bears only won six games and one match. In addition to Lane's shutout over Corona, six other members of the Red and Blue's squad left their competitors scoreless, as juniors Eric Bardiwal and Jon Katz, sophomores Jacob Himmelrich, Colby Emerson and Doug Weeden and freshman Graham Bassett each recorded 3-0 victories.

The Red and Blue's toughest win of the day came at No. 9, where sophomore Steven Klaiman overcame Brown's Rifkin in five games. The Quaker's only loss of the match was recorded by freshman William Simonton, who fell, 3-0, at No. 3.

The Quakers return to action Jan. 17 as they travel to Amherst, Mass. to face Amherst College. Match time is set for 11 a.m.
