Roche Earns GS All-American Honors As Men's Skiing Competes At USCSA Nationals

Junior co-captain finishes 10th overall.

BETHEL, Maine - Babson College junior co-captain John Roche finished 10th overall to earn Second Team All-American honors on Thursday, as the Beaver men competed in their fourth-ever USCSA National Championship meet at Sunday River.

Roche became the third male and sixth person overall in Babson history to earn USCSA All-America honors, joining Rodolphe Von Berg (81) and Carson Thurber (04, 05, 06) on the men's side and Ann Sarich (87), Essie Doilney (92), and Michele Steinrotter (96, 97, 98) on the women's side. He stood in 11th place after an opening run of 1:09.71, and then moved up to 10th overall after placing ninth in the second run with a time of 1:09.83. His total time of 2:19:54 was just 0.06 seconds behind ninth-place finisher Ian Hohmeister of UMass-Amherst.

Fellow junior co-captain Kevin Fusick also skied well on Thursday, finishing 26th overall with a combined time of 1:11.76. Sophomore Chris Jacobs placed 49th overall with a total time of 2:29.19, and first-year Max Winthrop bounced back from a first-run to finish his second run in 1:12.21 and place 89th overall in 2:53.34.

Babson returns to action on Saturday with the slalom portion of the competition.
