TAOS, N.M. - Tague Thorson picked up a victory in the men's slalom Saturday at the University of New Mexico Invitational. The team entered Day Two in sixth place but surged forward one spot to capture fifth place with 422 points. Denver won the event with 591 points.

"The goal wasn't the team score this weekend but to ski aggressive, take chances and experiment a bit," said Director of Skiing, Eli Brown. "Some experiments panned out, like Tague crushing the field. It's time now to regroup and prepare for the post season."

In the women's slalom, Eva Huckova led the Utes with a seventh place finish, picking up 24 points. Mikaela Grassl (8th place, 23 points) and Chirine Njeim (15th place, 19 points) also turned in strong finishes for the Utes.

In the men's 5K Freestyle, Utah was led by Casey Simon's 11th-place finish, which secured 20 points. Ian Havlick finished 21st with 14 points.

Sarah MacCarthy led the women in the 5K Freestyle with a ninth-place finish, racking up 22 points, while Madeline Talkington turned in an 11th-place finish for 20 points.
