Team Effort Helps Minutemen To Second Place Finish in the Giant Slalom

LINCOLN, N.H.- UMass men's ski team took third in the Slalom event on Saturday. Matthew Small led the way with an eighth place finish with a time of 1:58.05. Travis Hopkins took 14th place with a time of 1:59.57 and Adam Pogorzelski skied to a 19th place finish with a time of 2:00.48. Rounding out the top five for the Minutemen included Alex Zahoruiko finishing 25th with a total time of 2:02.59 and James Green finishing 21st with a time of 2:06.83. At the end of Saturday, the Minutemen were tied with Boston College for second place in the ECSC conference.

Sunday proved to be a better day overall for the Minutemen. Andrew Hawes was the top finisher for UMass with a fourth place finish at 1:56.79. Matthew Small continued his successful weekend taking tenth place with a time of 1:59.32. Green, Zahoruiko, and Hopkins also skied well placing 16th (1:59.91), 20th (2:01.23) and 26th (2:02.22) respectively. At the end of the day on Sunday, the Minutemen had sole ownership of second place in the ECSC Conference.

The Minutemen hit the slopes again this weekend at the Boston College Carnival held at Ascutney Mountain in Brownsville, Vermont.
