Hawkins took first in Giant Slalom at MIT Carnival

Feb. 6, 2008

LINCOLN, N.H.- Eliza Hawkins had an exceptional weekend, taking first place in the Giant Slalom on Sunday and second in the slalom on Saturday. Overall, the Minutewomen had a great run in the slalom with Hawkins clocking in second at 1:51.89, and Jaime Taloumis and Ashley Hawes placing eighth and ninth respectively, with a time of 1:53.84 and 1:54.58. Rounding out the top four finishers for the Minutewomen was Heidi Skinner, placing 23rd with a total time of 1:57.44.

Despite Hawkin's first place performance, Sunday's Giant Slalom posed a problem for the rest of the team. With Emily Shilletto and Taloumis going down in their runs, the Minutewomen had to ski well to maintain their position within the conference. Hawkin's won the race with a total time of 2:00.84. Hawes recorded a 19th place finish with a time of 2:09.83. Skinner and Lauren Levey both placed for the Minutewomen. Skinner recorded a 24th place finish with a time of 2:11.61 and Levey placed 30th with a time of 2:14.99.

Hawkin's and company return to action this weekend, February 9th and 10th, at the Boston College Carnival held at Ascutney Mountain in Brownsville, Vermont.
