Tim Pier has turned in MIT's top peformance in four out of eight races this season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - For the third race in a row, Tim Pier claimed a spot in the top 10 as he finished sixth in the slalom with a time of 1:57.08 at the MIT-Brown Carnival held this past weekend. As a team, the Engineers placed seventh while they moved up a slot in Sunday's giant slalom. On the women's side, MIT finished ninth in both events.

After Pier's placement, the Engineers formed two close groups in the slalom. Adam Bockelie led off the first pack by placing 40th in 2:13.37, followed by Jacob Stultz (41st, 2:13.94), Darren Verploegen (49th, 2:21.89), Ian Wolfe (50th, 2:23.42), and Jake Muhleman (2:27.03). Christopher Stephenson paced MIT's final trio (62nd, 2:48.72) as David Somach (65th, 2:52.29) and Frank Yaul (66th, 2:56.35) finished right behind each other.

Like the men's team, the women finished the event very close together. Rachel Leuthold and Jessica Stanley placed 43rd (2:12.03) and 45th (2:17.04) while Jillian Reddy and Alexis Dale claimed 65th (2:43.37) and 67th (2:44.07). Destie Jo Provenzano and Alyssa Samson rounded out the contingent with rankings of 75th (3:04.11) and 76th (3:12.46).

Pier paced the Engineers in the giant slalom by claming 24th place with a time of 2:02.00 while Stultz (30th, 2:05.89), Michael Yurkerwich (34th, 2:06.16), and Bockelie (36th, 2:08.25) followed closely behind. The strong runs of Muhleman (48th, 2:18.09), Verploegen (50th, 2:20.57), Wolfe (54th, 2:27.95), Somach (2:36.64), and Yaul (63rd, 2:47.27) helped MIT improve its spot in the final standings.

Leuthold registered the top finish for the Cardinal and Gray in the giant slalom as she logged a combined time of 2:19.00 for 39th place. Stanley's total of 2:26.54 earned her a ranking of 48th while the trio of Reddy (64th, 2:48.65), Samson (65th, 2:50.20), and Maria Frendberg (67th, 2:59.10) bolstered Tech's efforts. Provenzano closed out the weekend by finishing 74th with a time of 3:18.52.
