Utes surge to finish second at CU Invitational

Jan. 20, 2008

WINTER PARK, Colo. - Snorri Einarsson has done it again. The defending national champion picked up his fourth collegiate victory Sunday and his second this season, winning the 15K Classic by seconds over teammate Even Sletten.

Einarsson's efforts, as well as those of several other Utes, propelled the team to a second-place finish with 522 points at the Colorado Invitational. Colorado was missing several top skiers, who were sick and could not compete. The Buffaloes still did enough Sunday and finished first with 549 points.

"It is important to mention that part of the reason we moved up on CU is that they have some sick guys that didn't race," said Eli Brown, Director of Skiing. "We don't get as excited about winning when our some of our top competition is sick. We are excited though about our athletes and how they raced today."

The women competed Sunday in the 10K Classic, and were led by Sara Schweiger, who finished in fifth place. Annelies Cook was sixth, Zoe Roy was eighth, and Kjersti Boe was 10th, giving the team four skiers in the top 10.
