Alpine Skiing Excels At UConn Carnival

Men Take Fifth in GS, Fourth in Slalom; Women finish seventh in both races.

NORTH CONWAY, N.H. - The Babson College alpine ski teams enjoyd an outstanding weekend at the UConn Carnival at Mount Cranmore this weekend. The men's team placed fifth in Friday's GS and then a season-best fourth in Saturday's slalom, while the women finished seventh in both events.

In Friday's GS event, junior co-captain John Roche once again led the men with a 14th-place performance, followed closely by first-year Max Winthrop with a career-best 16th finish. Junior co-captain Kevin Fusick added his second top-20 effort of the year in 19th place, and rookie Keith Vella checked in in 23rd place. Rounding out the Beavers' lineup were sophomores Chris Jacobs and Connor Lemenze, who finished in a tie for 51st place, and first-year Enrico Palmerino, who came in 64th.

For the women, first-year Alexis Burton continued her brilliant start with an 11th-place finish in the GS. Fellow rookie Alyssa Sullivan came in 25th overall, and senior captain Jess Cohen placed 56th. First-years Catherine Mills and Victoria Tanous finished 62nd and 66th, respectively, and sophomore Tahira Adatia rounded out the Babson lineup in 72nd.

 

 

Saturday's slalom race featured big performances by Winthrop and Sullivan, who each stepped up to lead their respective teams with 18th-place finishes. For the men, Winthrop was joined in the top 30 by a quartet of teammates, as Vella placed 24th, Roche came in 25th, Fusick took 26th, and Lemenze finished 28th. Jacobs added a 34th-place effort and Palmerino moved up to 56th as the men placed fourth overall - their best finish of the season.

On the women's side, Sullivan was followed by Burton in 25th place, Cohen in 52nd, Mills in 63rd, and Tanous in 64th. The women now stand in seventh place overall in the MacConnell Division standings, while the men are currently fifth.

Max Winthrop '11 finished 16th (GS) and 18th (slalom) this weekend.
