Burton, Roche Cap Opening Weekend With Brilliant Performances

Both teams finish seventh on day two of the Colby-Sawyer Carnival.

NEWBURY, N.H. - The Babson College alpine ski teams completed their opening weekend at Sunapee on Saturday, as both the men's and women's teams finished seventh in the second GS race of the year.

Highlighting the day for Babson was first-year Alexis Burton, who turned in the best performance by a Babson female in 10 years when she finished second overall, just 12.03 total seconds behind first-place finisher Danielle Shannon of Colby-Sawyer College. With her magnificent effort, Burton earned Babson's first podium finish since Hall of Famer Michele Steinrotter's senior season of 1998.

Also completing a brilliant opening weekend for the Beavers was first-year Alyssa Sullivan, who placed 14th overall on Saturday. Senior captain Jess Cohen finished 43rd for Babson, followed by first-year Catherine Mills in 48th and sophomore Tahira Adatia in 58th.

The men's team also featured a historic individual effort, as junior co-captain John Roche recorded the best finish of his collegiate career by placing eighth overall. First-year Keith Vella followed in 21st place, first-year Max Winthrop came in 26th, sophomore Chris Jacobs took 30th, and first-year Enrico Palmerino finished 58th.
