Dec. 6, 2003 NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Big Red epee squad pulled out a 5-4 win over Yale, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs swept the foil competition en route to a 18-9 win on Saturday afternoon.
It was the losses in foil that turned an otherwise close match into a rout, as Cornell dropped the saber competition by a competitive 5-4 score. Meghan Phair and Erica Wilhelm collected two wins each in epee to lead the big Red to its lone team win.
Cornell will not compete in Sunday's NIWFA competition, which has been cancelled due to the storm that has pounded the East Coast with nearly two feet of snow.
Cornell will be back in action on Jan. 25 when it faces Vassar and Drew in Pughkeepsie, N.Y. at 1 p.m.
