Ibtihaj Muhammad Wins Junior National Saber Championship

ARLINGTON, Texas - Sophomore fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad won the Junior National Championship in the women's saber division over the weekend at the Junior Olympics. Muhammad was the top finisher in a field of 118 fencers.

Muhammad, a product of Maplewood, N.J., was an All-America selection last year as a freshman. She placed ninth at the NCAA Championships and second at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals. She posted a 49-8 record in her rookie season. This season, Muhammad boasted a record of 38-4 heading into the Junior Olympics.

The Blue Devils will be back in competition on March 5 at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals in Muhammad's home state of New Jersey.
