BERKELEY - The Golden Bears Men's Freshman Eight won their second straight IRA Regatta to earn the honor of Muscle Milk California Student-Athlete of the Week.
The boat, rowed by Nick Lucey, Goran Todorovic, Jovan Popovic, Calum Wright, Jordan Sartor, Samuel Walker, Spencer Crowley, and Rush Martin with coxswain Daniel Freisinger finished with a time of 5:37.372 to beat the University of Washington by less than one second.
The Bears, coached by Geoff Bond, have now won four of the last five freshman eight championships at IRAs. The win helped a Cal squad to place second behind Washington in the team standings with 207 points.
