CAMDEN, N.J. - The Marist men's varsity eight finished in fourth place in its semifinal on Friday at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships, held on the Cooper River. Racing against the likes of Navy, Georgetown, Penn, George Washington and Dartmouth, the Red Foxes completed the race in a time of 5:48.7, just 1.4 seconds behind Penn for third and 3.4 seconds behind Navy for first.
"It was an unbelievable race," Marist Director of Rowing Tom Sanford said. "We were almost able to beat Penn. It was pretty exciting. The guys are upset, but Purdue will be our biggest competition in the fourth level final."
As a result of their fourth-place finish, the Red Foxes will compete against Purdue, Holy Cross, Columbia, George Washington and Dartmouth in Saturday's fourth level final, which will determine the 19th-24th ranked finishers in the country. The time of the race is scheduled for 12:48 p.m.
