Cards' 2nd Varsity 8+ Crew Defeats Stanford at Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic

STANFORD, Calif. - The University of Louisville rowing team closed the 2007 Windermere Real Estate Rowing Classic with a win over the host Stanford Cardinal in the 2nd Varsity 8+ race on Sunday morning at the Redwood Shores Lagoon.
In their first race of the day, the Cards' 2nd Varsity 8+ crew covered the 2,000-meter course in a time of 7 minutes, 0.24 seconds to finish more than four seconds clear of Stanford at 7:04.30.
Later in the day, the Cards' 21st-ranked Varsity 8+ crew lost a very close race to No. 7 ranked Stanford as U of L was looking for its second win over a Top 10 team in less than 24 hours. Stanford completed the course in a time of 6:48.54, just three seconds clear of the Cards at 6:51.61. On Saturday evening, U of L earned the biggest in school history as they knocked off reigning national champion and No. 5 ranked California.
The Cards' final race of the day was a heartbreaking Varsity 4+ loss to Stanford as the host Cardinal covered the course in a time of 8:17.28, just .29 seconds ahead of U of L at 8:17.57.
Up next, the Cards will return to action on April 21-22 at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
