Zag Novice 8+ defeats UCLA with a time of 6:43.70.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Gonzaga University men's rowing team hit the water four times on Saturday at the Pac-10 Challenge presented by Windermere and hosted by Stanford University on Redwood Shores Lagoon in Redwood City, Calif. The Bulldog Novice 8+ earned a victory over UCLA in their first race of the day, before falling to Orange Coast College in their second race. The Zag Varsity 8+ dropped both of their races on the day; falling to both Oregon State University and Trinity College.
Gonzaga's Novice 8+ defeated UCLA easily in its morning race. The Bulldogs closed out the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6:43.70. The Bruins crossed the finish line nearly 28 seconds later in a time of 7:11.10.
Orange Coast earned the close victory over the Zag Novice 8+ in their final race of the day. OCC ended the course with a time of 6:42.95, just a little two seconds ahead of the Bulldogs who finished the course in 6:45.10.
The Gonzaga Varsity 8+ had a hard day on the water. The Bulldogs, racing Oregon State for the second time in as many weeks, finished seven seconds behind the Beavers in their opening race. OSU crossed the finish line in 6:16.40, while GU finished with a time of 6:23.65.
The Varsity 8+ closed out its first day at the Pac-10 Challenge with a 20-second setback to Trinity. Trinity finished the 2000-meter course in 6:52.36, while Gonzaga had a time of 7:12.27.
Gonzaga will wrap up its weekend at the challenge with two races on Sunday. The Zag Varsity 8+ will close out its racing with a head-to-head against UCLA at 9:56 a.m., while the Novice 8+ hits the water against Oregon State at 11:56 a.m.
