Zags Varsity 8+ wins their first race of the spring season Saturday.

DEXTER LAKE, Ore. - The Gonzaga University women's rowing team hit the water for the first time this spring and won two out of five events at the Oregon State University Dual on Dexter Lake in Dexter Lake, Ore. The Zags, rowing a 2,000 meter course on Saturday, earned victories in the Varsity 8 and the Varsity 4+ races.

Gonzaga started the morning off on a high note, winning the first race of the dual. The Bulldogs claimed the 12 second victory in the Varsity 4+ race, finishing in a time of 8:16.39. The Beavers closed out the course in 8:28.67.

Oregon State earned its first victory of the morning in the Novice 8+. The Beavers had a time of 7:08.19, while the Bulldogs finished with a time of 7:37.28.

In the marquee match-up of the morning - the Varsity 8+ race, the Zags squeaked out a four second victory over the Beavers. Gonzaga's boat crossed the finish line in a time of 7:23.26, while Oregon State registered a 7:27.30 finish.

The Beavers got their second victory of the day in the Second Varsity 8+ race. OSU posted a time of 8:01.9, while the Bulldogs Second Varsity A had a time of 8:05.4 and the Zag Second Varsity B registered an 8:19.0 finish.

Gonzaga's final race of the morning was the Second Novice 8+ dual. The Beavers rowed the course in 8:35.40, 11 seconds ahead of the Bulldogs, who posted a time of 8:46.00.

The Bulldogs will be back in action next Saturday, March 29, when they host Washington State University at Silver Lake in Medical Lake, Wash.
