CSTV Goes Behind The Scenes With New York City's Stuyvesant High School Football Team For An In-Depth Documentary

"The Peglegs of Stuyvesant High" to debut Sunday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. ET, on CSTV

Oct. 3, 2007

NEW YORK (October 2, 2007) - Stuyvesant High School in New York City is one of the most competitive public high schools in the country -- not exactly the first school you think of when you think of football.  CSTV will debut a special one-and-a-half hour documentary, THE PEGLEGS OF STUYVESANT HIGH on Sunday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m. ET, which follows the team through the twists, turns, drama and humor of their 2006 season.   The show will re-air throughout the week, and the schedule is included below.

Stuy High is a New York City public high school based in the shadow of Ground Zero that specializes in mathematics and science, not offense, defense and special teams.  There is no home field, few fans, and no respect for this group of brainiacs whose parents would rather have them studying than playing football.

THE PEGLEGS OF STUYVESANT HIGH explores this team of high-achieving, multi-lingual students from all over world who struggle to keep up on the field, balance a demanding academic course load, apply to college and deal with personal issues.

Throughout the documentary coach Brian Sacks relates to and inspires confidence among his players - who haven't had a winning season in years, while dealing with the unusual challenges of playing football in New York City.  Taking the subway to games when necessary, getting taunted as smart kids by opposing teams, and trying to explain the game of football to their foreign parents are all commonplace for Stuy football players.

The show focuses on three athletes - Romeo, a team captain, who is waiting to see if he is accepted early to Harvard; Max, a first-time player, who converts his anger into the game of football; and Aaron, who uses football as a way to cope with learning disabilities and the strict academic expectations of Stuyvesant.

The documentary was produced and directed by Paulette Douglas of Red Paw Productions, in association with CSTV.  The show will re-air on the following dates:

- Sunday, October 7 at 10:00 p.m.

- Tuesday, October 9 at 9:00 p.m.

- Friday, October 12 at 10:30 p.m.
