CSTV Salutes Women's Sports

Network to air

June 18, 2007

NEW YORK (June 18, 2007) - CSTV, in its on-going commitment to women's sports, has proclaimed the week of June 25th as The Women's Movement on CSTV.  The slate of original programming also marks the 35th anniversary of the landmark Title IX educational amendment, which ensures women be afforded equal opportunities in collegiate athletics.

The programming slate includes two installments of the critically acclaimed series ONE2ONE PRESENTED BY HONDA, featuring intriguing interviews with North Carolina State head coach Kay Yow, who is battling cancer, and winning runner Nawal El Moutawakel, the first African and Muslim woman to win an Olympic Gold Medal, who graduated from Iowa State in 1988.  Details are included below.

CSTV, which broadcasts more women's sports than any other outlet, will also air The Collegiate Women Sports Awards featuring the presentation of the Honda Broderick Cup, awarded to the top female collegiate athlete in the nation.  In addition, the network presents encore airings of some of the best women's collegiate action of the past year.

"Since CSTV's inception, we have been committed to covering collegiate women's sports in their entirety, and it's important that we commemorate the historical significance of Title IX and recognize some of the figures who have paved the way for today's female athletes," said Tim Pernetti, Executive Vice President, Content, CSTV.  "Our programming line-up reflects the array of women's sports events that air annually on CSTV and our dedication to providing exposure to women's athletics across the national landscape."

"I was thrilled to interview Nawal and be a part of CSTV's special week of women's programming," said Donna de Varona, Olympic Gold Medalist and Emmy Award-winning broadcaster.  "CSTV showed tremendous foresight in documenting the impact of Title IX in such a unique and appropriate way.  Nawal's contributions to her country and the region at large have had a tremendous impact, and although we know little of her here, I am confident her story will inspire many others and also underline the real significance of Title IX.  She may not be a household name in the United States, but in her country of Morocco, as well as throughout Africa, Europe and the Middle East, she is as well known and respected as Muhammad Ali."

State since 1975.  Her three separate battles against cancer have made Yow an inspiration to many women, and the court at Reynolds Coliseum was renamed this year in her honor.   CSTV's Debbie Antonelli, who played for Yow at N.C. State, conducts the interview, which covers the coach's battles with cancer, her faith and basketball career.
