The announcement of each week's winner will be released on Sunday afternoon. Then come back to CSTV.com at the end of each month to vote for the CSTV Student-Athlete of the Month!
To nominate a student-athlete, please send an email to student-athlete@cstv.com detailing the candidate's relevant academic and athletic achievements or records, major course of study, GPA and any anecdotal information illustrative of balanced student-athlete success. Please also attach a broadcast-quality color headshot.

Week of December 12: Justin Spencer School: Colgate Sport: Ice Hockey Class: Senior Major: Physics and Math |
![]() |
For many of us, just hearing the words "Physics" and "Math" is enough to make us break out in a cold sweat - but Colgate senior defenseman Justin Spencer saves his perspiration for the ice. Spencer has played all but one game for the Raiders this season, helping to anchor a defense that has contributed to the ECAC team winning their last four games heading into Christmas break.
Off the ice, Spencer is an alumni memorial scholar, a member of the Phi Eta Sigma national honor society, the Sigma Pi Sigma physics national honor society and has co-authored papers that were published in the American Journal of Physics. He carries a 3.5 GPA as a physics and math double major yet still claims to take some ribbing from teammates with higher GPA's. The Tweed, Ontario native has also managed to mix his love of hockey with his scholarly pursuits. Last summer he spent time researching the physics of the slap shot.
