CSTV's Student Athlete of the Week

CSTV's Student Athlete of the Week
Every week, CSTV: College Sports Television will recognize the unique combination of academic and athletic accomplishment by honoring a CSTV Student-Athlete of the Week.

CSTV's news and research departments will make the selection from a field of qualified candidates compiled from nominations and independent reporting. The announcement of each week's winner will be released on Sunday afternoon. Then come back to CSTV.com at the end of each month to vote for the CSTV Student-Athlete of the Month!

To nominate a student-athlete, please send an email to student-athlete@cstv.com detailing the candidate's relevant academic and athletic achievements or records, major course of study, GPA and any anecdotal information illustrative of balanced student-athlete success. Please also attach a broadcast-quality color headshot.

Week of April 17: Chez Sievers

School: University of Texas
Sport: Softball
Position: Second Base
Class: Junior
Major: Communications Studies
Sievers

When some players face two Top 10 teams in the same week -- not to mention their school's biggest rivals -- they cave under the pressure. Texas junior second baseman Chez Sievers, however, elevates her game to new heights.

Sievers went an impressive 6-for-8 with two runs scored and two RBIs last week against No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 5 Oklahoma, garnering Big 12 Player of the Week honors. She went 3-for-3 and drove in two of Texas’ three runs against the Aggies’ then-undefeated ace, Amanda Scarborough. Her perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate and two runs scored helped lift the Longhorns over the Sooners, 4-2.

The infielder has been a consistent performer for the fourth-ranked Longhorns all season, pacing the team with a .368 batting average and 14 RBIs.

In addition to her feats on the softball field, Sievers maintains a 3.25 GPA and was named to the 2004 Academic All-Big 12 and CoSIDA Academic All-District teams.
