Week of April 17: Chez Sievers School: University of Texas Sport: Softball Position: Second Base Class: Junior Major: Communications Studies |

When some players face two Top 10 teams in the same week -- not to mention their school's biggest rivals -- they cave under the pressure. Texas junior second baseman Chez Sievers, however, elevates her game to new heights. Sievers went an impressive 6-for-8 with two runs scored and two RBIs last week against No. 7 Texas A&M and No. 5 Oklahoma, garnering Big 12 Player of the Week honors. She went 3-for-3 and drove in two of Texas’ three runs against the Aggies’ then-undefeated ace, Amanda Scarborough. Her perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate and two runs scored helped lift the Longhorns over the Sooners, 4-2. The infielder has been a consistent performer for the fourth-ranked Longhorns all season, pacing the team with a .368 batting average and 14 RBIs. In addition to her feats on the softball field, Sievers maintains a 3.25 GPA and was named to the 2004 Academic All-Big 12 and CoSIDA Academic All-District teams. |
